Groundbreaking as a milestone – Schneider builds new European headquarters in Dormagen
Dormagen is set to become the new base for the hat specialists. With a ceremonial groundbreaking in late October, Friedrich W. Schneider GmbH & Co. KG (FWS) kicked off a construction project of historic significance for the company. Soon, the business—renowned for more than 100 years for high-quality headwear and known as the European licensee of the Stetson brand—will make Dormagen its new home.
As the first company in the new industrial park on Alte Heerstraße, FWS is developing a plot of around 12,000 square meters. The plan is for a modern new build that brings all facets of the company under one roof—from logistics and product development through to warehousing. The new facility will focus on a blend of contemporary offices and innovative warehouse logistics.
“Following our successful growth in recent years, we have found a new site in the Top West industrial park. Due to continued expansion, our previous premises in Cologne had become too small,” says FWS Managing Director Sebastian Boekholt, who is enthusiastic about the new build. “We quickly found a reliable partner in the city of Dormagen. Collaboration with the local officials, particularly the mayor, was extremely constructive, pragmatic, and goal-oriented—values we also appreciate and live by as a company.”
But this project is more than just a move. It marks the beginning of a new era for this long-established company, as it will be the first purpose-built company facility since its founding in 1913.
Mayor Erik Lierenfeld is also convinced of the upcoming move, planned for late 2025: “With Schneider, we have succeeded in attracting a long-established company to our industrial park.”
At the groundbreaking, Managing Director Sebastian Boekholt, Authorized Signatory Martin Flinterhoff, and Marketing Manager Michal R. Bronski Brzozowski (all FWS) welcomed the presence of Mayor Erik Lierenfeld, SWD commercial sites manager Rainer Bertelsmeier, project manager Stephan Bücker, and sales engineer Jens Farnbacher (both from Goldbeck) to ceremonially mark the start of construction.
